University of Peridenyia, Patricia, JP, awesome string hoppers with three curries to die for. Arjuna, holding court in his office with the deptment Chairman of Fine Arts. Another wonderful fellow. A guest house on the University of Peridenyia built in 1938, so a relatively modern structure. The outside amphitheater from the university. Batticaloa-Unnichai-Sinna Uppodai Lagoon-Puliyanthivu Sri Lanka Day four
a whirl wind day of visits, flashbacks, and memories Some of the pictures I’ve included on the previous day: a couple of my old residences, the old college I taught at and Batti town in general. Plus, some faces from my past: Rajes Kandiah, a mentor teacher of legendary proportions in these parts and aContinue reading “Batticaloa-Unnichai-Sinna Uppodai Lagoon-Puliyanthivu Sri Lanka Day four”
Colombo-Batticaloa Sri Lanka Day three
Walking is easier and more fun than 9 hours from Colombo to Batticaloa By train Arjuna, my old colleague, tutor, now published author, professor and friend, took me to a new restaurant in Colombo. Can’t remember the name but it was in a completely reconstructed part of town. Oh, I remember you well! [JP, Patricia]Continue reading “Colombo-Batticaloa Sri Lanka Day three”
Sri Lanka- The “Pearl of the Orient”-The Island of “Tea and Spices”- Serendipity – Colombo Sri Lanka Day Two
Wandering, running travel errands(tickets, plans…) I am completely blown away! Not remotely the same place. It cost me $20.00 to cab to the hotel Cinnamon Red, as opposed to the Cinnamon Lakeside, or the Cinnamon Grand. It is a long way, really but like most things, life is still cheap here. Great deal on the rideContinue reading “Sri Lanka- The “Pearl of the Orient”-The Island of “Tea and Spices”- Serendipity – Colombo Sri Lanka Day Two”
Madrid-Madrid-Madrid-Madrid-Madrid-Madrid-Madrid Walk Day zero
wandered around Madrid What else? I walked the city today and even double- decker tour bused it, disembarking in Plaza Major. Under construction, remodeling, but vast. Wandered aimlessly, stopping for a bocadillo and cafe and later a beer. Plenty of cool plazas and outdoor cafe’s all over. The difference is the heat. 90+ with humidity.Continue reading “Madrid-Madrid-Madrid-Madrid-Madrid-Madrid-Madrid Walk Day zero”
Rua-Pedrouzo-Labacolla-Monte de Gozo- Santiago de Compostela Walk Day 35
12.4 miles, elevation 345′ Surreal! I do not walk tomorrow!!! I have arrived. I can’t wrap my mind around it yet; I made the trek. The trail filled up fast all day with peregrinos from all “Ways”. Met Giancarlo, a 28 year law student, who walked from Barcelona. He lead traditional Spanish songs along theContinue reading “Rua-Pedrouzo-Labacolla-Monte de Gozo- Santiago de Compostela Walk Day 35”
Arzua-O Pio- Santa Irene-Brea-Rua Walk Day 34
15.8 miles, 367′ elevation The Day was a blur of activity for now the trail is a constant flow of people. Peregrinos from the Primotivo and the Franes weave together. Student groups singing and general chatter and conversations comparing the different paths. Hearing from many about the other two I’m comfortable I made the correctContinue reading “Arzua-O Pio- Santa Irene-Brea-Rua Walk Day 34”
Sobrado-Viarchao-O Peruxil-Castro- As Corredoiras-Boimorto-Franzomil-Arzua Walk Day 33
15.8 miles, 354′ elevation Left Sobrado at zero dark thirty, 6am. Slept fitfully and not well. The Hotel San Marcos, though centrally located and clean, had mushy beds that bowed like bananas when you lay down. It never does my back justice when I’m forced to look up at my feet amid saggy middle portionContinue reading “Sobrado-Viarchao-O Peruxil-Castro- As Corredoiras-Boimorto-Franzomil-Arzua Walk Day 33”
Santa Leocadia-Miraz-O Meson-Moradelo-A Lagoa-Noguira-Guitiza-Sobrado Dos Monxes Walk Day 32
22.3 miles, 1268′ elevation The journey today took me through some interesting geography. First a high plateau that reminded me of parts of the Easter slope of the Sierras. Granite and pine and scrub oak and manzanita for two or three peaceful and flat miles. Then through a series of tiny old Galician farms untilContinue reading “Santa Leocadia-Miraz-O Meson-Moradelo-A Lagoa-Noguira-Guitiza-Sobrado Dos Monxes Walk Day 32”
